Whether you agree with Brazilian businessman Ricardo Semler’s re-engineering of the traditional workplace hierarchy or not, it is difficult to ignore him. After all, his flat, transparent business structure laid the foundation for decades of growth at Semco SA.

What I appreciate about this video is that Semler approaches the idea of an established norm and constructively asks Why. This is the classic work of someone who utilizes Design Thinking to look at (and typically rethink) traditional models. I love people who have the vision and the guts to invent a new model and then stick with it long enough to see it through. What traditional, that’s-the-way-it-is things do you take for granted that could use a new approach? It doesn’t have to be something as drastic as rewriting business models—even simple reconstructions can have far-reaching effects.
