Being Patient While Being Awesome

It is through videos like this that I’m reminded it just takes time to see something through. This is one awesome feat at the Sasquatch Music Festival last month at The Gorge in Washington:

The half-naked dancing man made it happen, didn’t he? It can teach us a lot, but without rehashing a dozen age old cliches about sticktoitofness, the real takeaway here is that sometimes you need to be both patient and awesome. Even doing one of these is difficult, but both at the same time? Nearly impossible. Also pretty scary.

If you take a look at the data, he was essentially hanging it out there for a long time before he got any help. It took 20 seconds before anyone joined him. Then he got another bump after about a minute, then a huge influx at 1:30 and after 2:00 he had a tornado going. If we can think about this little growth pattern over larger projects, it might help us remember to be patient while being awesome. I know that I, for one, am too quick to call a project dead if I only find a little bit of engagement. I would have failed after probably the 30 second mark. I need to start learning to stay awesome for at least a minute, then two minutes and so on.

    45            1:56
    60            2:02
    70            2:08
    90            2:18

For his dedication and hard work he is rewarded. Is he rewarded with his goal? No, probably not. I think he probably would have been just as happy dancing on his own, although I’m sure he was over the moon that he created a dance party with over 100 people in just about two minutes. Being happy dancing on your own is a pretty awesome lesson to learn. I love this guy. He was “unstoppable.”
